Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), including Coursera, edX, and OPENedX, are providing more than 1900 onine courses from 145 institutions. Students from all over the world have access to the courses anywhere and anytime, and the large-scale participation of online learning and interaction activities are producing clickstream data, grading data, and forum data. VisMOOC is the first visual analytic platform that we desinged to analyze large-scale data of MOOCs platform for domain experts including course instructors and education analysts. We will be continuing providing intuitive, interative and comprehensive analysis of multiple data sources. A 4-year ITF research project will be launched, and VisMOOC will be integrated as part of a localized MOOCs platform.
Tens of millions people in urban cities, using intelligent phones, accessing social networks, or taking public transporations, are producing tons of information every day. Important patterns ofpeople's interaction with urban environment are contained in these information, in which new opportunities boom with the wide spread of information technologies. We are now able to reveal these patterns and provide a valuable insight how people move and interact with others. In a series of projects, we have studied various important aspects in urban informatics, including human mobility, social media, behavior analysis, which is of high social and business values. We have proposed novel visualization techniques and system design, which will be integrated into a open sourced platform.
Urban cities are under rapid transformation. Smart transportation, healthy environment, and convenience in peoples' daily lives are more desiried than ever. Thus, it becomes a necessity to get awareness about important urban conditions, as well as valuable insight into how urban cities perform and how people interact with the urban environment. In a series of previous projects, we have studied various important aspects in urban informatics, including human mobility, social networks, behavior analysis, environment and air-pollution analysis, 3d visualization techniques, which is of high social and business values. We will be continuing carrying out research projects that are dedicated for smart transportation, envoriment and health care to faclitate a smart living in urban cities.
