An Introduction of Mandarin Tone Recogntion

Abstract
Tone recognition is desirable in Chinese ASR since its good performance will contribute a lot to the speech recognition for Mandarin. In this talk, a general overview of the state-of-the-art of tone recogition will be presented, including some basic background information, features (mainly acoustic ones) extracted for recogntions, and some effective learning methods and schemes applied to monosyllablic, polysyllablic and continuous speech tone recognition. In addition, several potential improvement to the recognition accuracies will also be proposed.
Biography
CAO Lu is an ECE final year student at HKUST who has been working in the Human Language Technology Center.
